Four Men Two Women Elected to School Advisory Council

Four men and two women were elected to the School Advisory Council for three year terms. New members are Mrs. L. Z. Brown Mrs. Julian Hart O B Raburn Dr Don Sanders Albert Sybesma and James Roberts. The council also discussed a proposed two million dollar bond issue for school expansion including two twelve room elementary schools and stadium improvements.

Jan Ellis Wins Who's Who Prize Guessing Game

City Council action approves ordinances and raises water deposits

The City Council passed two ordinances, set new commercial water deposit rates at 500 dollars, and discussed sewage expansion costs. Bids Top Architect Estimate For New Stadium

A Tuesday bid session saw contractors submit bids for an 8000 seat embankment stadium far exceeding the architect's $188,000 estimate. Herman Krevitt of Midland submitted the low bid at 288,226 and emphasized a 180 day completion.

Twenty Jurors summoned for county court duty

Edwards Resigns Studio Position

Roy E. Edwards resigns as Green's Western Art Studio manager to lead Reeves Photography in Lubbock. He and his wife will move, with Edwards starting Monday morning. Edwards took over the studio in March 1955 and has been active in the Jaycees and VFW. his wife participates in the VFW auxiliary. W. L. Thompson will become studio manager.

City Grants May Permit Boom For Homes And Businesses

City records show May permits total nearly one million dollars with 71 home permits costing 862 700 and 75 111 square feet. Three commercial permits add 86 300, led by 675 000 for Mid Tex Construction Company to build 50 brick faced dwellings in the northwest.

Unrelated incidents leave several injured in Andrews

Gerald Calloway 29 lies in serious condition after a gunshot wound to the head at his 500 NE 4th trailer home. Joyce Calloway 23 is free on bond after being charged with assault with intent to kill. In Hobbs a 30 year old man, Buford Tipton, remains in critical condition after a knife attack. Eddie Ward 24 is hospitalized with a skull fracture from a hammer blow at a drilling rig near Andrews.

City issued five permits this week including one commercial Drive In cafe at 106 Fast Broadway for 2800 by M W Spercer built by K W Whisenant. Damage suit filed by accident case seeks damages

A damage suit totaling eighty thousand dollars was filed in district court last week. Plaintiff Arien Carlton Williams, 35, seeks to recover damages from a collision here last September between Williams' car and a gasoline truck of H and D Gas. John Watts of Odessa is attorney for the plaintiff.

Summer Recreation Program Kicks Off Monday Morning

The county launches a two semester summer recreation program with morning golf and swimming registrations at the golf course and pool. Youngsters register for arts and crafts, and sports in the Junior High gym and old high school gym with supervision by named staff. Adults may join in the evening arts, crafts, and dancing sessions at the youth center.
