In a chamber office this week a family initiative sought to ease daily commuting by finding housing near Odessa for Andrews and others. Residents complained about crowded schools and churches but welcomed simpler living solutions.

West Texas Construction to build the houses, each about 1200 square feet with five rooms and two baths, costing around 13000 each. Water service to the new area requested. multiple other permits total 106000 for three commercial buildings.
Morris W. Roper of Midland was killed when his cab overturned on the Florey road northeast of Andrews late Tuesday night. The 30 year old chemist for the Western Company was single when the crash occurred at about 10 pm, his car leaving the road after failing to negotiate a curve and overturning in a pasture. He was dead on arrival at Permian General Hospital. He is survived by his widow Helen two sons Kim and Morse and a brother Dr. Cliff Roper of Austin.
Sammy Junior Eames five was found dead behind an abandoned ice box in North Andrew Flats after an exhaustive neighborhood search. Sheriff Peacock led the probe with Lucille Butler confirming the boy played nearby that morning. Justice of the Peace ruled accidental death from suffocation and wear prostration. Services were held for Otis Lewis Barnes the eight month old who died Monday.
Angel 27, veteran Texas Highway Patrolman, becomes senior officer and inaugurates a new Andrews sub-station under Lubbock division. Patrolman Jean Pate remains in Seminole as the two stations shift traffic enforcement in the county amid recent accidents and a grand jury request.
Sixteen of the 89 graduates last Friday night maintained a 90 or higher average over four years and seven achieved 90 or above in their senior year. J Lee Smith announced scholarships including national merit and Texas Council of Churches awards. Barbara Hogue earned a 225 dollar Delta Beta scholarship.
The fourth team will be sponsored jointly by B. William & Sons and Andrews Auto Parts. Other sponsors include Farner Smith Drug Tucker Construction Carruth Trucking and Superior Welding. Parents meet Monday at 7 PM at the high school field to elect officers as about sixty 13 and 14 year olds practice under Percy Morrison and H H Callahan.
Kene Thomson is named as the winner in the weekly contest at Charlies Car local trucker. The subject was correctly identified, and the winning entry notes a 210 pound weight. The fourth straight missed bonus pot means the next winner can claim $7.50 plus a $12.50 bonus pot. entries are deposited at Andrews Drug on North Main.
Funeral services for Charles Clay McCargo a west Texas resident of 65 years and father of Mrs. W T Barnes will be held this afternoon at First Baptist Church in Anson He died at 345 pm Wednesday in the Barnes home at 207 Southeast 7th Street McCargo born in Chase City Virginia came to West Texas 68 years ago settled in Jones County farming and real estate He was a former mayor and school trustee at Anson Retired in 1939 moved to Grandfalls later lived in Anson area Survivors include three daughters Mrs Barnes Mrs Joe W Wootres of Albuquerque Mrs H N Phillips of Midland three sons George I of Moran C F of Plains and W J of Kermit seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Andrews Junior Chamber of Commerce receives two national honors for community service and leadership. Dixie Maltsberger receives a leadership award for his contributions during the club’s first year. Awards signed by Hugh McKenna, national president. Civic Service Award recognizes Jaycee clubs in Texas.
