A free two hour movie morning will be shown at the Rose Theatre starting 10 a m Saturday. Admission is one can of food one clothing item or one toy. Goods will be donated to needy children by the Jaycee community sharing project. Short subjects and comedies accompany the program.
The Chamber of Commerce banquet is scheduled for 7 30 p m Friday January 20 with Melvin T Munn of Blue Cross of Texas Dallas as principal speaker His talk titled Andrews 1966 will cover the program of work new officers budget and directors are to be announced by the banquet committee
Toys, clothing, and food are piling up for needy families as the Junior Chamber of Commerce leads a city wide effort. Lions and Rotarians join luncheons with donations, while Jaycees consolidate programs to prevent duplication. Collections happen at Andrews Library Sunday at 2 p.m. and deliveries are planned for Christmas Eve. Call 309 to refer a family.
Final rites for Joseph G. Kirkpatrick age 60 were held at 4 p m Wednesday in Marshall Funeral Chapel Hillsboro. He died Monday from burns received in an oil tank battery fire 22 miles northeast of Andrews. Interment was in Ridge Park Cemetery Hillsboro.
A pickup stolen from J. E. Stewart Welding Works led to a late night alarm. State patrol stopped the vehicle three miles west of Odessa and arrested driver W. H. Strickland, a Stewart employee, on theft charges with bond set at $1000. Strickland said he went to buy a sledge hammer and a shovel.
Four new directors were elected to the chamber of commerce board in last week’s elections. Jim Herzberger O J Raburo Vernon Payne and James Roberts will fill vacancies left by Johnny Smith L B Parrish Roy Sparks and Claude Neely who resigned last year. They take office January 20 and join existing directors Lynn Rice Luther Reynolds Charlie Carruth Roy Bennett L B Williams A L Rhodes Ray Porter and J R Bills. Officers will be elected at a meeting next week.
The Fourth Annual Feast of Carols will be presented by the Primary Elementary and Junior High School Choirs at 7 00 p m Tuesday December 20 in the high school auditorium. The 60 voices Junior High choir directed by Bryan Baker will sing Christmas carols. The 400 voice Children's Chorus includes grades two to five and opens with lighter songs then groups like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. The event closes with a Nativity tableau sung by all choirs. Accompanists Miss Fio Ashcraft and Miss Martha June Morehart.
The newly organized elementary school choir plans a 6 p.m. caroling tour of the town with a 50-voice group meeting at the school. Parents sponsor the event, with quartering at the building after the tour. Members include sixth graders Rodger Barnes Roy Mayfield Tanya Blair Marion Wolfe Faye Brown and others.
