A letter addressed to Stinkey from Teeny arrived at the Andrews post office. Mrs. Edgar Burkett, the postmistress, and staff request information on Stinkey’s box number or who currently handles his mail to aid postal authorities.

Thieves Loot Safe at Forrest Lumber Company Store

Thieves broke into the Forrest Lumber Company store, smashed the safe, and carried off $30 in currency last Saturday night. A check showed no other losses, manager W. L. Blair said Monday. Entry was gained through a rear warehouse door and the door into the store was pried from its hinges.

Women’s Missionary Society meets for Foreign Mission lunch

The Womens Missionary Society of the Baptist Church gathered Monday at the home of Mrs. Cora Heath for the Foreign Mission program. Each attendee brought a covered dish for the luncheon and about twelve women attended.

Tabb Named As Outstanding Coach Of District 5A

Andrews Mustangs head coach Francis Tubb was named the outstanding coach of District 5A this year. Other coaches summed up the opinion with that comment about finishing runner-up in the toughest class A district in the state.

L. C. Owens Dies In Lubbock Home

Luther Owens aged 64, longtime druggist with roots in Andrews and Winters, died at his Lubbock home on a Sunday morning after years of ill health. Born December 26, 1883 in Hopkins County, he moved to Leonard then Winters, later shifting to Kermit and Andrews before settling in Lubbock in 1948. He married Mae Snyder in 1909 and leaves a family, including daughter Mary, plus a wife active in the arts.

Grand Jury Indicts Jimmy Burnett for Forgery

An Andrews County grand jury returned one indictment against Jimmy C. Burnett for passing a forged instrument totaling $41.60, with forged checks issued to Williams Dry Goods Co. and O. N. Justice. Burnett remained jailed in Wichita Falls on related charges. The panel included E. K. Sisson and others. Sheriff Peacock noted Burnett’s detention and awaiting action in Wichita Falls. Also noted: Phillips Oilers vs Hardin Simmons game and a high school magic show drawing crowd.

Quarterback Club to Honor Mustang Squad With Banquet

The Andrews Quarterback Club will honor the Andrews Mustang football squad at a 7:30 p.m. banquet in the school cafeteria on Monday night. Out of town speakers include Jack Curtis of the Texas School of Mines and Mike Brumblow. Coaches Francis Tubbs Neil Taylor Goldsmith and Vernon Payne will be honored guests with 32 players invited.

Sewing Machine Shop Set to Open in Andrews

Mr Buster Cisco and his wife move to Andrews from Pampa Texas and open a sewing machine shop in the Andrews Hotel beside the Java Junction. The shop opens Monday at 1:00 PM with son Billy Don and helper Wilford Price offering sales repair and service for all makes.

Hamilton Walker Elected Co Captains of Basketball Team

Hamilton and Walker chosen as co captains for the coming season by teammates. Andrews High School Mustangs beat Midland Bulldogs 39 to 25 with strong defense from Graham and Walker and backboard control by Summerwell. Miss Joane Randell bride elect of James Rice was honored at a gift tea in Community Hall Crane on December 8. The Andrews Public Schools will dismiss classes for holidays on December 22 at noon. The 22nd falls on a Wednesday and school will resume January 3, giving students an extra holiday break.

Fatal Derrick Fall Claims Leonard Tow Near Tohoka

Leonard L. Tow formerly of Andrews was killed 5:00 a.m. last Sunday after a derrick fall near Tohoka. He worked for Warren Maypole as a roughneck and is survived by his wife and two children. Funeral services were held in Colorado City with several local residents attending.

Jury Selected For Compensation Case In District Court

A district court jury was selected Thursday to hear a damage suit between plaintiff Bett Booker and defendant Alamo Casualty Company. The case aims to overturn an Industrial Accident Board award. Fire destroys small office at Archie's Lumber Yard

Archie's Lumber Yard suffered the loss of a small framed office building on Tuesday night. The Andrews Volunteer Fire Department prevented the fire from reaching the main yard, though the office was completely destroyed.

German Bride Welcomed at Andrews County Home

Mrs Billy Price of Fulda Germany is first German bride to settle in Andrews county. She arrives in Houston October 26 after a 24 day Atlantic voyage and will host an open house Saturday from six to eight. Co-hostesses include Mrs Carl Betenbough and others.

School Bond Election Date Change Announced

The school bond election calling for 272000 dollars for school buildings and improvements is rescheduled to December 18, changing the prior December 11 date.

Housing Shortage Hits Andrews as Pipeliners Flood City

A flood of workers for pipelines roads and oil projects has overwhelmed Andrews housing. Families from Kansas slept in cars after failing to find rooms as every apartment and space is filled. Highway Dept to Build Lamesa Section of Broadway Road

County Funds In Good Shape After Record Collection

Record breaking tax collections in October and November put county funds in good shape. In Central Northwest and Southwest Andrews County Texas prospects, several wells report Ellenburger and Wolfcamp production. Shafter Lake tests show initial production around 1 140 barrels per day with corrected gravity 42.9, gas oil ratio about 300 to 1, as operators pursue completion and swabbing tests amid multiple new drillings near Jal New Mexico and Andrews.
