Residents celebrate ongoing sewer line installation as workers toil daily. A speaker requests extra dirt coverage after laying the line, arguing cars cannot cross foot-deep gullies. The project marks another step forward for Andrews.
A Monday 8 o clock courthouse gathering seeks to form a Quarterback Club to support the Mustangs in district play. The editorial urges all county residents and local businessmen to attend, promising greater team backing and town publicity through an active organization.
A 21 mile Winkler County road linking Kermit and Andrews should open by September 1 after asphalt work. The project, costing 389000, will create a 44 mile direct link between the two cities, replacing routes via Odessa Notrees or Eunice New Mexico. Earnest Loyd of Kermit is the contractor.

County rate 1.38 per 100 yields 448 500. state 32 cents per 100 yields 104 000. school 1.00 per 100 yields 380 000. Total about 932 500. Bond interest not due until 1949.
Texas Health Department data show 182 typhus fever cases in the year to date with seven new cases reported in the week of July 17 to 24. Dr. Geo W Cox notes August peak and cites a five year death total of 273 from 1943 to 1947, urging rat control measures.
The First Baptist church revival starts Sunday August 8 with Rev. E Brand as pastor for a 14 day meeting. Evangelist A G Wright from Muskogee arrives Monday to lead preaching with E Otis Allen directing songs. Morning worship at 10. Evening prayer at 7 15 then 7 45 worship. This district eight program unites multiple Texas counties in simultaneous revivals.
J. S. Montgomery Democratic Chairman of Andrews county announced absentee voting would start August 9 and close at midnight August 24. Four races are on the run off United States Senate State Senate State Representative and County Judge.
Mr and Mrs Bill Blair Mrs Homer Rentz and Mrs Carl Betenbough returned from New York City where they attended the International Lions convention They stayed at the Hotel New Yorker with 1800 other Texans They visited Franklin D Roosevelt's grave in Hyde Park and then traveled to Buffalo Albany Ellis Island and Niagara Falls returning via Chicago Mrs M O Woolam also attended but had not yet returned as of Thursday with plans to tour Florida next.
Charles W. Roberts Sr announced that Western Geophysical will relocate to Andrews for a year if suitable apartments are found. Residents with vacancies are urged to contact the News office.
Work on the Andrews sewerage system advances with many mains completed or nearing finish. The disposal plant nears completion as part of the project.
Andrews County Hospital affiliates with Blue Cross joining 345 Texas hospitals and 4,000 nationwide. The hospital will serve 30,000,000 Blue Cross members and provide extensive benefits including 30 days care per member, 90 additional days at half value, unlimited drugs, lab exams, dressing, casts, operating room use, oxygen, and more.
The News announces a Monday night meeting at 8 o clock in the District Court room of the Andrews County Court House to organize a Quarterback Club in support of the Andrews Mustangs for the fall conference championship. All interested in backing the team are urged to attend and assist in organizing the club.
David Moore of Andrews is among 1176 North Texas State College students on the dean's honor list for the first six weeks of the summer session. Eligible students must be juniors or higher with a B average and no grade below CC on at least 12 hours. Moore, a junior music education major, is son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Moore and a member of Phi Mu Alpha and the Gammadions.
Fullerton will be the name of a new post office starting August 16 in the Fullerton oil field. Two names were submitted and Raullerton was chosen. Postmaster Blanchard said the office would open August 16 with a building under construction and preparations finalized to handle mail.
Judge Kilmer B Corbin states in a letter to Charles Roberts that the Andrews to Lamesa segment of the Broadway to the Big Bend Highway will be contracted soon. Dawson County voters previously approved a 150000 dollar bond for a 75 25 state county split, funds to back the unpaved Big Bend link from Lamesa to Andrews.
Andrews county saw its first meaningful rain in months last Sunday with totals from one to two and a half inches. Fullerton field recorded two and a half inches, Humble camp one inch, and most areas about two inches. The rain eased drying range grass and moisture relief was noted. Wind toppled a rig near Frankel City during the storm.
Mid-Continent Petroleum plans an 8000-foot test at No 109 University in Northwest Andrews County to extend the Wichita Albany proven zone. Other wells, including Frankel No 4-0 University and Stevenson No 1, probe Devonian and San Andres-Permian aims in the Shafter Lake region with mixed results. A Gulf Oil State School Board wildcat reports to 9774 feet while Cities Service progresses nearby.
The Fullerton Baptist church opens a 14 day revival starting Sunday August 8 led by Rev. E. J. Keith as pastor and Rev. J. H. Bunch of Burleson Texas will preach. Services occur each morning and evening and the meeting ties with the Andrews revival and all Baptist churches in district eight.
Jim Galloway, superintendent of Humble Oil and Refining, is transferred to Los Angeles to set up a new Humble district. He departed by plane Tuesday. Mrs. Galloway remains at the camp until a Los Angeles home is found.
The report lists multiple hospital admissions and discharges from late July to early August. Notable cases include Co. R. Nichols admitted July 20 for a right foot injury from falling drill pipe and Joe Lovell of Superior Oil in serious condition after a back injury from being crushed between drill collars. Other patients include Harry McDowell ill, Mrs. Dave Sisson for surgery, Bobby Brumley, Mrs. Harvey Wood, K. T. Meroney after a heart attack, Mrs. A. W. Holman, and Mrs. Mollie Snodgrass in automobile collision recovery.
Mr and Mrs H H Emmons announce the birth of Gary Marshall a seven pound son born July 31. Mr and Mrs W L Conatser report a baby girl born August 2 weighing eight pounds four ounces.
The pulpit at First Baptist Church was filled Sunday by Rev. Cletus Ice, Baylor ministerial student and son of Mrs. K. T. Meroney. The service featured his sermon to the congregation.
The district announces a September 6 opening with new primary and high school facilities expected to ease crowded classrooms. Parents must provide birth certificates and immunization records for diphtheria and smallpox, with optional typhoid, for all entering school for the first time. Vaccination clinics run August 10–12 for city residents and August 17–19 for county residents. Children must be six before November 1, 1948, to enroll. those not meeting age or readiness may be refused or withdrawn.
