A Milwaukee Railway chief plans to assist farmers typical of Montana at the fair. Officials expect fewer visitors than hoped but anticipate faster progress than ever before.
Helena reports opening day of Montana fair with spectacular air stunts by T A Jenkins on a Clevenger plane and Walter Raub parachute drops from a balloon. Crowds enjoyed rodeo acts, Indian dances by Chief Whitehead, and strong farm displays including Silver Bow exhibits.
A top Milwaukee railroad delegation led by President HW. E. Byram arrives in Butte with a five-car private train. The group includes three vice presidents and senior engineers and managers, who sleep in the Milwaukee station train shed after a day of inspection. The party also features Muncey Nicholson, L. K. Silcox, C. N. Loweth, R. J. Middleton, and A. P. Chapman.
Helena September 13. Montana Salvation Army county advisory boards gather for the first annual convention to be held at the Broadwater tomorrow. John G. Brown of Helena is state chairman. Delegates, representing about 40 counties, will report on social and moral conditions to guide the Army's work for the coming year and help map out a statewide campaign.

Governor Cox told a Portland Auditorium audience that the liquor question is dead as slavery and that the present issue is one of law enforcement. Kansas City, Sept. 13. Growers in the Northwest wheat belt are urged to hold winter wheat until it brings 2.75 a bushel at country elevators. Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Nebraska farmers ratified resolutions and asked Minnesota, the Dakotas and Montana groups to join. A survey showed growing cost for a 20 percent profit at 2.77 in four states and 2.75 and a quarter in seven others, justifying the price while condemning current low spot purchases as aiding speculators and risking lower acreage and higher prices later.
Betty Butte, Montana’s only aviatrix, describes the state fair from 2,500 feet up and likens grounds to a dinner plate as she flies with Aviator Clevenger. She notes hunger and observes fair sights while recounting the ascent and view.
Bakersfield California September 13 Well No 7 on the Carman lease in the Elk Hills owned by Standard Oil Co is a flaming torch today. It came in yesterday with a roar forcing 15,000,000 cubic feet of gas through its casing with friction causing a spark that ignited the gas. This is the third large gas well fire in the past year.

Portland Maine Sept 13 The Republicans swept Maine and Frederic H Parkhurst won the governorship by the largest gubernatorial plurality in state history With 42 towns left to report Parkhurst led Bertrand G McIntire Democrat by more than 64000 aided by substantial women voters The Republican sweep extends to the state senate all county attorneys and sheriffs while twelve Democrats captured seats in the state house of representatives (Continued on Page 2)
Denver September 13 report states the crew of the Boulder bound special car and Globeville station agent were held responsible for a Labor Day interurban collision. The crash killed 12 people and injured 101, per the coroner's jury verdict issued late today.
The program lists a Bozeman band intro at 1:00 pm followed by Wild Wesel spectacle, White Elk in India, multiple running races, auto polo, balloon drops, parachute drops, and a 2 mile relay. The Board of County Commissioners submitted a counter offer for rental of 1000 dollars a month for city quarters in the county house. The city would receive the space without extra cost, but use of the entire ground floor was denied. The letter cites a state act provision in relation to county property and space use. Paris dispatch reports Jean Guitry, son of Lucien Guitry, died in an automobile collision on the Deauville Paris road while riding with Le Tellier, owner of Le Journal. Guitry had a notorious history with an opium den and was a noted figure among Europe’s aristocrats.
