Bold jail break plot foiled by diligent Butte jailer
Jailer Sol Levy exposed a bold plan to break prisoners from the city jail of Butte. A hole 14 inches wide was dug in the west wall, mortar scraped away, and a wire hidden to cover the exit. Levy’s downstairs inspection uncovered a pasted prize fighter image hiding the gap, halting the scheme before dawn. Suspects Frank Burns and Thomas Ryley were questioned. two men were later released on condition to depart the city.
