A painter will reproduce the momentous driving of the Golden Spike at Gold Creek to celebrate the completion of the Northern Pacific Railroad. The canvas will be hung in the State Capitol, commemorating the historic event.
A San Francisco painter M Joullin will create a 10 by 15 foot panel titled Driving the Golden Spike for the Montana capitol. The work depicts the Gold Creek gathering at the 1883 spike drive with General Grant and Henry Villard among others, with an Indian war paint backdrop. The piece, to be painted in San Francisco, will be a state gift from the Northern Pacific railway and ready early spring.
The State Plumbers association opened its annual session at the Grand hotel Billings with President John A. Collins of Great Falls presiding.
