In a dramatic confrontation the fighter, once famed for accuracy, sustained a leg wound but managed to retreat and then shot himself. The incident closes a violent episode with medical teams responding to preempt further danger.
King Edward VII arrived in London aboard the royal yacht Victoria and Albert at Portsmouth and returned by special train. Crowds cheered as he, accompanied by Queen Alexandra, appeared on a platform, bowing to supporters amid heavy rain and a festive carriage procession to Buckingham Palace. Princess Victoria and the Prince and Princess of Wales joined the reception.
Spokane reports the capture and death of the notorious Tracy after a two day pursuit near Fellows and Creston. A Seattle sheriff positively identified him at the inquest. Tracy was wounded by a rifle shot, dragged himself through wheat, and died by a self inflicted shot after the posse surrounded him. The fugitives staged a dramatic daytime escape and on July 2 seized a gasoline launch near Olympia forcing four men to board as they sailed Puget Sound toward Seattle amid pursuit.
A serious accident at the central trestle near Dawson Springs leaves young women injured with two fatalities and others fatally harmed. Names such as Johnny Smith from Paducany and Lucy Stevenson are referenced among injured or affected residents. Additional details mention Lena Flint and Eulith Stevens, with further unidentified victims or witnesses in Hickory.
Reported meeting between Emperor William and the Russian Czar aboard the Standart near the harbor. A reception was held on the quay with warships saluting, aides manned, and a private conference between the two rulers. Grand Duke Ales and other officials attended the formal visits aboard the Standart.
A would-be robber battled Brakeman D. W Carpenter on the rear platform of the last car near Chickasha on the Rock Island Road around 2 o clock this morning. Carpenter was shot in the hand but the bandit fled as the train derailed and the robber escaped without loot.
