President's address is expected to stress grave national needs amid ongoing fires endangering property. Unoccupied structures across the city show signs of being marked for destruction. Three in one building are noted in the report.
In Limerick, a police patrol attack by armed civilians prompted Colonel Cameron to enforce a 4 PM curfew and tell residents to keep windows open to prevent blast damage. Explosions heard at 6 PM damaged several houses and businesses as auxiliaries harassed people in the streets. Crown forces ambushed between Middleton and Castle Marty with a large mine explosion, lasting about 30 minutes. Casualties unknown. Regular troops then conducted reprisals in Upter district, destroying two farm houses and produce after an earlier March 19 ambush that killed six soldiers and wounded five. Authorities found a machine gun and ammunition at the agricultural society grounds.
A series of late night fires in unoccupied Butte structures draw fire department and underwriters’ scrutiny. Wires to fire alarm boxes were cut to delay detection, most recently at the Gem meat market on Arizona Avenue. Firefighters contained the blaze but caused heavy damage to meat stock and smoke damage to merchandise.
In Spokane a federal jury acquitted James G. Montgomery of manslaughter after nearly 20 hours of deliberation while deadlocking six to six on William C. West. The charges stem from the May killing of Ernest Emley in Keller Washington.

An attack near Creggan Duff, Belfast, left one constable dead and three others wounded. A 16-member assailant group ambushed the cyclists from behind a wall, using rifles revolvers and grenades. the constables fired back with revolvers.

John Keating a 24 year old Washington University student and night manager at an oil filling station was shot dead when two unidentified men attempted to rob the station in St Louis Missouri during April 1960. The bandits fled the scene.
Washington reports February railway deficits totaling 7,205,000 dollars with 106 of 200 reporting railroads failing to cover expenses and taxes. Total operating revenues were 406,658,000 while expenses reached 385,878,000, a 4 and 7 percent decline respectively from 1920. The net deficit, though, fell 5 percent from February 1920 to 16,161,000.
Go-getters for the five day roundup of new members for the Y begin tomorrow. A banquet at 6 30 p m today in the association building will climax the preliminary preparations. Inspirational talks will be given by roundup director E L Mogge and others. Charles R Leonard will be toastmaster. A noon meeting will select prospects. The jumpoff is tomorrow at 8 50 a m with final instructions. The Y is praised as a vital community center in Butte.
In Detroit on April 19 three people died when an automobile plunged over an embankment into a water-filled excavation in the Springwells district. The victims were Frederick Reinhold, his 14-year-old daughter Laura, and Joseph Marozski. Mrs. Reinhold and her son were rescued by Homer Morris, who dived repeatedly to save his companions but could not reach the three victims amid darkness.
April 10 Baltimore detectives search for seven armed bandits who held up Citizens' Democratic Club at 3 a.m. Twenty victims were backed against walls and robbed of jewelry and about $7,000. Dr. J. C Crawford knocked unconscious as leaders fled in automobiles.
LONJMON April 10 Today brought relief from coal strike tension as ministers and labor leaders visited the country for a rest. Labor leaders voiced confidence that unfettered talks will bring more pumpers back to duty though they must abstain from harassing volunteers. The government, while opposing a subsidy, is willing to offer limited temporary aid. It is believed the wage basis proposed by mine owners will be dropped and a new basis formed for miners to consider.
An official statement reports Greeks suffered 600 killed and 3,400 wounded in Asia Minor. Turkish attacks renewed on the Brusa front. A Japanese steamer with Turkish prisoners was seized by Greek naval units and taken to a Greek port amid a Turkish protest from Angora.
Washington April 10 great Britain’s payment of 25 million dollars in principal and interest under the war debt funding scheme falls due Friday. The payment relates to 122 million dollars incurred by the purchase of 100 million standard silver dollars for relief of India’s silver famine. Officials expect payment through the federal reserve bank in New York.
Daniel Carone, 27, of Mount Vernon leaped from the Brooklyn Bridge today into the East River. He fell 133 feet, was seen by tug crew, rescued alive and unharmed after a quick water entry, his second jump from the bridge since 1915.
Butte followers of the soviet last night tried to disrupt a Knights of Columbus lecture at the high school auditorium where David Goldstein spoke on Bolshevism. Dunn, Carney, and others repeatedly attempted to seize control, but were repelled as Goldstein defended his arguments and denounced socialist aims.
Washington April 10 The new republican administration moves to full speed as the Sixty-seventh Congress convenes for an extraordinary session. The program centers on opening formalities, an emergency tariff bill, and taxation revisions with swift moves toward a vote before the weekend. Senate and House agendas include a Colombian treaty and efforts to place the tariff measure in the president’s hands next week.
Clarence Hines a 23 year old Canby Minnesota auto mechanic convicted of manslaughter surrendered at Stillwater state prison after a trip escorted from Canby. Warden Sullivan initially refused admission but after contacting Lyon County officials and confirming the trip Hines was admitted to the penitentiary.
In Mexico City on April 106 Pablo Ramirez and Lieutenant Jacobo Gonzales were sentenced to death by court martial in a military proceeding.
Buffalo date April 16 Roy Harris held on confession in Elwell murder case admits initial story false after two hours with District Attorney Moore. He says motive was fear over his wife and sought reassurance of her loyalty before facing possible death penalty. Harris had earlier duped New York detectives and was kept incommunicado with a charge of first degree murder later withdrawn.
