The jury found Glenn Maxwell guilty of an attempt to commit a reported incident in a Nevada case involving Genevieve Farrington then 14. The verdict followed ten hours of deliberation with sentencing set at up to 20 years, subject to parole, to be pronounced by Judge Albrook.
The death of Mr A H Williams of St Paul occurred in that city last Sunday. He had many acquaintances in Ames, having been a frequent visitor here with his wife.
In a suit by J W Thompson against Charley Dawson for alienation of his wife’s affections, a stipulation shows Dawson paid Thompson 3000 dollars and will cover case costs. The divorce was granted to Mrs Thompson without alimony and no remarriage within a year. An altercation with Herbert Dawson occurred that evening. sheriff removed Dawson to Nevada but a related complaint was dismissed after a general settlement.
Ed O’Keefe the man who assaulted H. C. Smith at the city pump house last year was indicted by the county grand jury in Nevada this week. He has been in the county jail since his arrest and faces trial in the coming days.
A swarthy man calling himself John Hoover, who held scrapers for De La Hunt, was seized by Marshal Thompson near Main Street after a shift cut. He pleaded guilty this morning and sought to guarantee a five dollar fine with costs. the case likely to be settled on that basis.
In Ames Iowa Miss Daisy Rube a young field worker in a local factory swallowed carbolic acid from a bottle likely by mistake during dinner time last Friday. Doctors treated her promptly and she shows rapid improvement though her face suffered minor burns. Her sister and community defend her reputation and suggest she was unconsciously taking a medicine dose.
Rev Andrew M Shea is named to stay in Ames for another year after the Des Moines district conference vote. He marks seven years as pastor, and last year he oversaw construction of a new church costing 53150 fully funded by subscriptions and payments.
Dr A B Maxwell and Mrs Maxwell travel to Fort Dodge for the Iowa League of Municipalities convention where he appears as Ames city clerk. Mayor Tilden and Frank Linebaugh join, with Linebaugh presenting a paper. Prof Irwin attends and will speak on landscaping.
Henry Woodruff purchased two parcels from Frank Coulter for 750 dollars. The lots sit on Agate Street between Grand and Lincoln Avenues.

A switching crew pushed a box car into another on the second track near the freight house late Sunday night or early Monday morning. The striking car derailed the loaded car on the first track and tipped it halfway over, causing considerable difficulty to set things right again.
Milo Manning bought the James McCoy farm of 159 acres in Story county for 16 695 dollars eight months ago. He sold it this week to Joe Jacobs for 22 647 50 dollars, earning 5 952 50 dollars without major improvements. The deal underscores strong farm land values in Story county.
Will Gilmore a recent Iowa State College civil engineering graduate now employed by the Northern Pacific has accepted a position as surveyor for the Northwestern with headquarters at Boone.

After a Bedford Iowa appointment the Reverend Charles E Lyman Nye requests transfer to Chicago He will preach at St Pauls Church with a salary of 1500 dollars per year
Despondent over family troubles sixty year old Mrs. S. E. Harkins hanged herself with a rope in a buggy shed on a farm near Colo two miles northeast. A note blamed her son in law for trouble between Lana and herself. Inquest returned a verdict of death by own action. The coroner reported a troubled marriage and strained life with daughters.
J. C. Berwen of the Nolan farm west of North street was named night marshal this Monday to replace Tom Fultz who resigned last week. Berwen was sworn in and began duties Monday evening as Fultz returned to carpentry work.
