Avis Agatha Robinson aged one year, one month, and seven days, pulled a plug from a washing machine filled with boiling water. Fatally scalded, she died the next day after efforts to ease her suffering. Funeral held at home with Rev. Shea officiating.
The McCrory family longtime residents of Carroll Avenue relocate to Colorado Springs. Miss Hattie also moved there a couple of months earlier for health reasons.
Pete English, noted anti prohibitionist in Ames, attacked his wife with a chair after arousing the household with drunken street roaming. He was jailed on intoxication before a mayor and will serve 30 days in county jail then face potential assault charges. The English family occupies Boone street’s Lemon house with other tenants and heads to Sedalia for judging at the Missouri state fair and a Kansas City contest. Profs. Kennedy and Dinsmore join the trip.
Stockholders of the Ames Chautauqua Association met for the annual business meeting in the Armory. A new board of directors was elected and a committee was formed with Maxwell Park Association to plan a permanent auditorium. Maxwell Park would take on the debt to build it, with remaining stock to be sold at ten dollars a share.
In Ames a would be groom from Joplin Missouri lacked a witness for a marriage license with Theressa Hayes of Ames. Clerk Soper sent him to find a known person and he located Harry Dowe in Story City. A later affidavit from Dave confirmed the couple could wed, and the license was issued.
Five students selected from Iowa State College to form the judging team for the American Royal Live Stock Show in Kansas City. Named are M. W. O'Donnell of Ames, J. G. Thompson of Jamaica, G. Thornburg of Ames, M. H. Fedderson of Bryant, and R. W. Cassidy of Whiting, chosen from the class standings.
Bill Hook aged 05, former Student editor, resigns from Globe Machinery Co in Des Moines and moves to Marshalltown to become superintendent of the heating department at the National Vacuum and Heating Co.
E. C. Scott, a Nevada Electric Company employee, slipped into an uncovered cellar well at the Briggs home. He grabbed a grip and pulled himself free from the deep, water-filled hole before submersion, with no one present to hear cries.
Lucy Stoops was arrested Sunday by Marshal Thompson on a charge of intoxication after taking on Boone mineral water. He pleaded guilty Monday morning and the fine of five dollars plus costs was promptly paid.
Stayner of this city is said to have drawn number four in the Buell Idaho land drawing last week. A Perry McCutcheon letter states Stayner was in the tent when his name was called during the drawing.
J W Krouse, a farmer near Sheldahl, was riding on a high wagon with a keg of nails when a broken stone jolted the wagon. He toppled off, the keg struck him, fracturing his left leg and causing serious injuries.
Prof. M. L. Bowman, ex Iowa State College farm crops head, resigns and sets up real estate business in Waterloo. He will base there but travel mainly to British Columbia to develop and sell agricultural lands.
The first college field football games this year matched freshmen against sophomores and juniors against seniors. Short halves, frequent timeouts, rapid fumbles, but fast play with several forward passes and a criss cross. Each team scored one touchdown. neither could kick goals. final score five all. Matches set for next Saturday afternoon.
