Switchman Beaten at Hoggatt Street Crossing
Fred McKim, a switchman for the interurban at the Hoggatt street crossing, was slugged and robbed by footpads last Saturday around 11 pm after the southbound car passed. He lay insensible overnight, later found by a passerby, and taken home for care. McKim had been preparing to lock the switch when struck from behind with a heavy weapon. several dollars were taken. The incident disrupted the late-night service as Station Agent Walt Dyer halted the car to allow McKim to board earlier. The report notes injuries and a robbery done while the switchman faced the morning return journey.
