An itemized advertisement lists extra heavy Peau de Soie silk worth $1.38 at 98 and short lengths of black Taf feta Silks 36 inches wide at $1.48. Other silks include 36 inch fancy silks at 75c and 58c, with sale prices shown as 43c to 9c in a rundown of colors and patterns.
A large assortment of girls caps and ladies hose priced at 25c to 20c. Fleeced hose 25c. 9x12 Axminster Rugs offered at 19.75 and 9x12 Brussels Rugs at 11.98. Linoleum two yards wide selling for 0.98. Other fabric and rug deals highlighted.
Ames authorities led by Mayor Sheldon and the ministerial association visited the Scenic theatre to view the film Unwritten Law. They concluded the pictures would demoralize youth and ordered suppression, praising local leaders for upholding moral standards.
Miss Della Coe head nurse at the college hospital married Mr. Harry Watt senior and hospital assistant in a quiet October 1 ceremony at the Methodist parsonage in Nevada. Coe, daughter of Seymour Coe, came to Ames after training in Des Moines. Watt plans to complete his course in June then study medicine in Chicago.
The colt show and sale at Kelly last Saturday drew a large crowd and featured about 35 head of colts exhibited by farmers. Property valued at $7,000 was disposed of, marking a strong market day with the next sale planned for October 26 at the same location.
Stock has been listed for this sale and a bigger turnout is expected than that of last Saturday. List your property and attend the sale.
At the Kellogg home in Des Moines last Thursday evening 8 o clock the marriage of Dr G J Snyder of this city to Miss Clarissa Kellogg with Rev C W Sweet officiating. About fifty guests attended. The couple will reside in Des Moines. Dr Snyder is a prominent local dentist who began practice after purchasing Dr Gardner’s Ames office. Both families are active in church and social life and Ames friends offer their congratulations.
An accident on a foot bridge on the J. J. Coon farm north of the city injured Miss Mary Fry, daughter of Mr and Mrs Van Fry of Milford Township, breaking her right leg above the knee after the bridge collapsed during a teen picnic. The rest of the party escaped with minor ducking as the group fell into the Skunk river.
The incident follows a pattern of local break ins labeled quarterly burglaries. Police suspect local perpetrators after minimal loot, with only thirteen cents and a knife recovered, a burned book, and damaged windows. Citizens demand swift justice.
The Homesteaders lodge invites about 100 Des Moines visitors for a October 31 gathering with a 6 pm dinner and elaborate program including initiations and dancing. Supreme officers J. E. Paul and Dr. C. B. Paul will attend. The fraternal life insurance plan has grown since February 1906 with over 12 million dollars in issued policies and operates in fourteen states.
Gov. William Larrabee and his wife will visit Ames this week with events at the Conaway home. Larrabee will speak at the chapel at 9 40 Friday morning and a public reception is planned Friday afternoon from 3 to 5 at 617 Northwestern Avenue. No invitations will be issued beyond press notices.
J J Scott of Ames city schools passed the bar exam and has a diploma allowing practice in the county courts. He will keep teaching for now and run next spring for county superintendent, his legal knowledge aiding his candidacy.
Victor Brown, youngest son of P. P. Brown, broke his forearm last Saturday in a peculiar accident. He grabbed the drag while ponies pulled a dray wagon toward the woods for nuts, slipped when his grip gave way, and suffered the arm injury.
A private ceremony was held at Mrs. Frances Pitts home on Boone street at 10:00 am Monday. W. H. Newhard and Lena Pitts, both of Ames, were married by Rev. Williams. After a wedding dinner the couple left for Des Moines for a brief honeymoon. they plan to reside in Ames where Lena worked as a bookkeeper and was active in Clover club, and W H Newhard has worked in Ames department stores and is now with Tilden grocery.
