Ames defeated Cornell in both singles and doubles on Monday with Heath beating Reren 6-4 5-7 6-2 and Fishel toppling Elijah 4-6 6-1 16-14 after over two hours. Heath and Fishel also won the doubles 13-11 6-4.
A Tuesday newspaper reports Bob Armstrong fell into financial trouble after attempting to finance a new Casualty Company in Chicago. The story notes high finance pressures and the company’s affairs are in bad shape, leaving Ames friends saddened by the misfortune.
A Saturday short circuit in a college streetcar dynamo caused a small blaze that grew en route to downtown before stopping at Kellogg Avenue crossing. Ds McCoy extinguished the flames with a bucket of water. In Oroville California a son was born to Mr and Mrs James Hutchinson last Monday. Mrs Hutchinson is Nina Starr.
Earl Craun Tommy Brooks and Don Fowler, three Ames youths, rode a freight train west after leaving Sunday afternoon for Seattle to visit the exposition. Parents are distressed as Don has a history of wanderlust and maysoon return.
A 150 strong Omaha party including the Commercial Club and stock exchanges visited Ames on Tuesday. They toured the campus, viewed stock displays, and rode a parade through Onondaga street to Duff Ave. Speakers from Omaha discussed “Omaha, the market town” while moving pictures were filmed for a future exposition. The delegation then toured businesses before returning to Story City on a 1:32 p.m. train. Homer Yeomans and Albert Snyers signed the giant bass drum.
Zebina K Graves born March 31 1874 in Ames died May 1909 after pneumonia. He married Cadie Preeland October 10 1905. A Mason and Woodman, he was a respected stock and fruit farmer. Funeral held at Graves farm with Rev W J Minchin officiating. seventy eight teams followed to Ames cemetery.
Tom Fultz of this city sues the Chicago Surety Company for 50 damages from injuries in a farm implement collision two years ago. Trial before Judge McPherson in Des Moines heard evidence Tuesday and Wednesday. defense urged a directed verdict as contractor Schleuter had just gone bankrupt and the work was near completion.
During the Saturday rush afternoon the interurban added an extra car to serve the college. Parley Sheldon stepped in to operate the vehicle and drove back and forth on several trips.

Gallup Bros of Jefferson Iown purchased the Ames Second Hand Store last week and took possession on Tuesday. They are undecided on plans but may dispose of the property soon.
At last week’s board meeting Dr S L Jodide of Michigan was elected to fill the vacancy in the soils department created by Prof J O Schaub’s resignation to take a position in West Virginia. Dr Jodide’s salary is $1700 and his work begins July 1.
Prof. Wallace of Edinburgh university dean of agriculture visited Ames College last week to study American teaching methods in agriculture and to observe farms. He spoke to agronomy students on soil fertility and animal disease control. Henry Wallace of Des Moines also spoke on the Country Life Commission findings.
