The Nevada Journal notes six weather flakes and a spring melt while Des Moines’ Mac Vicar wins the mayoral race by over a thousand. Ames headlines cover the Christian Badpavor Society meeting, the M E church Ladies Aid social with quirky card supper, and Klondike returnee Joe Cohn sharing travel tales and hardships.
Mrs. Kate Rammel visits Des Moines while many neighbors and relatives travel between Des Moines Lake City Clinton Boone and Ames. Trades and travels include Lou Tilden to Chicago for goods, Charley Tilden returning from Iowa City, and Wilson Rich on a Chicago business trip. Visitors include Mrs. F Fowler Mrs. Nichol Mrs. Sisson and Mrs. Taylor.
Last Monday’s city election produced four hundred sixty two votes with Cramer defeating Thompson by eight. In the first ward James Hale won a council seat for the Citizens ticket, Hamilton the Independent, while C. G. Lee, Howard McLain, and A. S. Needham were elected to other posts. Weather hindered spring farm work and church and civic notices filled the community agenda alongside remarks on Spain and possible war.
Tomorrow the Ames post office changes postmaster after four years of service. The Times editor becomes postmaster as Miss Watts remains deputy and Miss Loughran assists. The post office and Times office stay at current locations. The new postmaster plans better service and more printing support, while the editor reassures the paper will continue. the crowd is invited to see the show A Breezy Time at the opera house Friday April 1.
The Ames Commercial Club will hold its regular monthly session at Read's Hall tomorrow night at 7 30. Committees will read communications about a butter and egg house and members are urged to attend with guests to keep interest high. The Congregational church begins a Passion week with brief services each evening at 6 45 to 7 30 this week with non denominational aims and welcomes all.
Friday schedule includes topic Food Suggestions music by Ladies' Quartette and a talk by Miss Coburn from the domestic economy department. Beginning April, Mother's Meetings move to the Congregational Church for several months with questions and experiences and select readings by Mrs Pamme.
