In Ames Iowa March 19 1898 Tama Tevacce announces her candidacy for Clerk of the Courts under Republican primaries. Also Ames March 21 1898 Averly places name for County Recorder as Republican candidate. Henry Christman signed as Recorder.

Kansans rush to arms as Missouri and Iowa debated war funding. Karl Cannon of Pinney County and Ethel Ball of Lawrence wed in a ceremony. J Q Moore of Indian Creek campaigns for County Recorder. The Roland Record notes county office shakeup while Iowa lawmakers authorize 500000 for troops, to be repaid by the federal government.
A levee breach drowned about ten percent of Shawneetown Illinois residents after floods from the Ohio and Wabash rivers. News of the disaster triggered neighboring towns to deploy relief boats and assist those seeking shelter. A separate note recounts a humorous sock letter incident, followed by a critical take on Des Moines Des Moines Leader and calls for a new silver daily in Iowa politics.
