Iowa Experiment Station reports 90 day steer feeding trial shows silage cuts costs and raises daily gain by about 3½ pounds, with overall feed efficiency improved. Brood sow ration tests use corn and meat meal under student supervision. Prof. M L King inspects silos and tanks, while Prof. R E Buchanan coauthors a bacteriology book with specialists.
Ames High swept both debates earning unanimous judge decisions at Boone and here against North High. Speakers Lewis Sherman Will Hauser and Dave Holden argued for income tax with a 5000 dollar exemption while Boone’s team opposed. Ames experts impressed a larger Baptist church audience and Boon’s supporters praised Ames oratory despite mixed local reactions.
The Girls Glee Club presented The Egyptian Princess Saturday night at Agricultural Assembly. An opening Florodora sextette drew applause. The operetta follows Alva and Queen Grania in a tale of prophecy, love, and escape with notable dances and strong vocal numbers by Niva Nichols, Orra Jones, Jean Sloss, and Blythe Poage. Prof and Mrs Thompson and the orchestra earned praise.
Census figures show Story county total at 24,083 in 1910 up from 23,159 in 1900 with Ames posting the largest gain and Nevada township dropping from 3,074 in 1900 to 2,680 in 1910. Towns Collins Gilbert Story City Maxwell Huxley and others are listed with 1890 1900 and 1910 figures.
Speculation swirls over who will acquire the abandoned Newton and Northwestern line as Milwaukee Rock Island and Iowa Central show interest to access fuel coal fields near Colfax and connect Ames and Cambridge with larger networks. The Gamma Thetas fraternity, now on Pike avenue, have purchased the home of Prof. and Mrs. L. H. Pammel on Boone street and will occupy it next year. The Pammels plan to return to their Duff avenue residence in August.
James Rudolph Garfield former interior secretary will lecture at the YMCA evening assembly as the fourth in the series. The subject is expected to be Citizenship. Garfield, born October 17 1865 in Hiram Ohio, is son of President James A. Garfield and a former Ohio state senator and cabinet member. He practices law in Cleveland and lives in Mentor Ohio.
After extensive discussion the spring intersociety debates at the college select the resolution that state and federal legislation embodying the Canadian Industrial Disputes Investigation Act should be enacted to settle labor disputes. Tryouts for teams meeting Iowa State Teachers College occur in the semester’s final two weeks.
At an election held Thursday of last week I. F. Gillmor was chosen editor-in-chief Carl Kennedy named business manager and Prof. W. J. Kennedy selected faculty representative for the coming year.
The threatened strike of Fort Dodge Des Moines and Southern employees did not occur. A one year contract was announced after conferences on Sunday afternoon. The raise is about sixteen percent with monthly increases of ten dollars for passenger workers and fifteen dollars for freight crews.
Jim Woodward, city bill poster, builds a right angled billboard on ground west of Linn Morris's livery barn using approved methods. When finished it will add to his string of publicity spreaders.
A. D. Shamel editor of the Orange Judd Farmer addressed agricultural journalism classes and faculty at ISU last Friday. He has long supported college journalism and prizes for student work, and announced a spring contest with a gold medal prize. He stressed college training plus practical experience for farm paper editors.

Walter Kersey has rented one of the Cairns houses in the west part of town and will move his family here next week. Mrs. Kersey will be remembered as Miss Leah Latham.
Nevada notices announce EB J Penfield doing business as The Bank of Kelley was adjudicated bankrupt on March 22. First creditors meeting set for April 10 in Des Moines federal building. Creditors may attend prove claims appoint a trustee examine the bankrupt and conduct related business. Referee H C French signs the notice.
