A small cyclone struck west Ames between 1:30 and 2:00 am on Monday, damaging homes and outbuildings. Porch and pump house blown at Ben Edwards residence, M L King barn destroyed, and A A Wells barn lifted from its foundation with extensive interior damage. Trees felled, livestock losses reported near Ames and southward, with several properties hit and debris scattered.

Roy Rode Bicycle Incident At Tilden Store

Death of Des Moines youth Milton Childs at 14
Milton Childs, fourteen, son of Mr and Mrs M A Childs, died suddenly of heart failure at his Des Moines home on the 16th and was buried on Sunday. He had been ill about a year but remained active. the family is remembered in Ames where they lived long, Mr Childs once worked with the telephone company here.

Driscoll Sentenced to Five Days in County Jail
John Driscoll a laborer at the college was arrested by Officer Art McCoy Friday at 9 o clock and jailed for refusing to pay a wage claim. He had no money and said he would not give an order, asserting he had earned the money and would keep it. Justice C E Haverly ordered confinement in county jail at Nevada for five days.

Spence fined ten dollars for assault in Iowa case
F. B. Spence, a local fruit man, was found guilty of assault and battery against Mrs. Mary Dvoracek by Justice of the Peace C. E. Haverly in State of Iowa v F. B. Spence. Council Lets Contracts For More Water Mains
Bids for water main extensions were opened by the city council. W. E. Rosecrans submitted the low bid at 941.25 and was awarded the contract, with Mead Robinson and Andrew G. Mogul engine off tracks in Boone to Belle Plaine run
Engine number 1781 pulling freight train 120 from Boone to Belle Plaine ran off the track in the east yards at noon. Freight traffic was tied up until about two in the afternoon when the engine was replaced on the rails.
