Melvin Brooks, a longtime Ames resident, suffered a right side paralysis stroke Sunday morning while alone at the Steve O’Brien residence. He was found unconscious on the floor around midafternoon with a bruised arm and leg, unable to speak. Friends anticipate his recovery as Springfield speakers address the gathering later in the week.

Boys Club Plans River Camp Trip
The Christian church boys club, about sixty members, will camp and fish for a week in July with the pastor and older youths. Tenting will be at the Bennett farm south of town and the group will hike the river to the camping ground, with July 6 set as the march date.

The obituary recalls a mother of seven children with four surviving offspring Eli M. of Lovell Oklahoma Perry R. of Bloomington Illinois Mrs Mary Snyder of Gilbert and Mrs Amanda Robertson of Osceola Iowa plus eighteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral was held at the home by Rev Warner Johnson Tuesday with burial in Ames cemetery. A parish call Tuesday found him able to walk with little inconvenience.

Two men in a buggy on Main Street were found drunk after nearly overturning at a tracks crossing. Marshal Ricketts removed one man by force, the other followed and was restrained. Mayor Sheldon bound them over for intoxication at a $7.35 fine each, with no payment. They are jailed with Sheriff Warrick at Nevada. named Clyde Roberts and Al Sutter.

William B Loughran Dead in Port Clinton
Des Moines born William B Loughran died June 15 1910 at Port Clinton suburb Toledo where he and wife Mary Miller had resided. He rose to sales manager at Gale Mfg Co after earlier work with Moughran Machine and moved from Ames to Toledo in 1895. He endured pneumonia and a nervous breakdown since 1907. Survived by wife father sisters and brothers. Tom Loughran attended funeral.

Terrible accident claims life of Mrs Speers in Eldora
Mrs Speers burned after lamp oil spilled and ignited while her husband Mr Speers tried to douse the flames. She died Friday morning after enduring severe injuries at Eldora. Born in Ames, she left behind a husband two sons and two daughters. Her brother George Graham of Ames attended the funeral with other family members.

Attorney Vinje Dies Returning From Minnesota Farm
Attorney D. J. Vinje of Nevada died Saturday evening about ten minutes before his arrival in Nevada on a short line train. He had been in poor health but improved at his farm before a final decline from Brights disease. A respected Nevada attorney for forty years, he leaves a wife and six children and a substantial estate. Funeral services were held in Nevada Tuesday morning.
