Superintendents Talk Agriculture at Iowa College Session

Eighty county superintendents met for three days at the college to plan rural education in country schools. State Superintendent A M Deyoe presided as leaders discussed centralized and township high schools, home economics, and agriculture. Attendees inspected poultry farms, dairy units, and extension activities while impromptu conferences and college tours highlighted the event.

Foreigner Fined For Dumping Refuse In Creek

Nick the cook for a gang of foreigners west of the stock yards was arrested Friday for dumping refuse in a small stream south of the tracks. Street Commissioner Art McCoy and crew had just cleaned the stream when they caught him. He posted $25 cash bond via B A Knudson, arraigned Saturday before Mayor Sheldon, fined $5, given a severe reprimand, warned against repetition. Offense deemed serious and potentially heavily fined. odor from stock yards cited as motive.

Delegates Fill Boone Epworth League Institute

Over a hundred delegates attended the Boone district Epworth League annual institute at First Methodist church. Dr Newell Dwight Hillis of Brooklyn spoke on Oliver Cromwell and the Five Liberties, highlighting reformer aspects. New officers include Rev Fenner King as president and C S Arthur as first vice president with other officers named.

Ames Men Find Highest Point of Land in Iowa

Spirit Lake dispatches report Professor Stanton and fifty Ames civil engineering students confirmed a new high point in the lake region near Beulah church east of East Okoboji. The site reaches about 1,721 feet above sea level, twenty-one feet above the prior estimate and supports a push for a United States weather observatory at the elevated site.

Road Boosters Plan July Marshalltown Meeting

The Iowa Official Trans-Continental Route Association seeks members at $2 and aims to stage a two section summer meeting in July. W. C. Rollins, W. F. Coan, and F. W. Meyers lead efforts to ready a Mississippi to Missouri drag road, with tours from Clinton to Cedar Rapids and Council Bluffs to Jefferson. Details will be mailed in June as counties and newspapers along the route are invited to participate.

Mayor Sheldon to judge Des Moines racing meet

Mayor Parley Sheldon is one of the judges for the Des Moines racing meet held Tuesday through today. He is a long time judge known for fairness. A large field of top horses from California, Colorado, Texas, Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois and other states are entered. After Marshalltown, the week ahead will send horses to the Great Western circuit, the eastern states, the Grand circuit, or into the bushes.

Continental State Special to Denver by Northwestern

The Chicago and Northwestern introduces a new through train to Colorado called the Continental State Special leaving Chicago at 10 a.m. and reaching Denver at 1 15 p.m. Eastbound from Denver it departs at 9 a.m. and arrives in Chicago at 1 30 p.m. The train features through chair cars standard and observation sleeping cars and electric lighting throughout with through standards and tourist sleeping cars for Portland Tacoma and Seattle, arriving every third day. A separate Omaha bound service departs Chicago at 8 30 a.m. and arrives at 10 40 p.m.. No 3 will have no through connections for Portland or points north of Gardner.

A Friday vote by resident property owners decided to pave Grand Avenue with creosote wood blocks. The process drew a large crowd as bidders and supporters watched.
