Nate Engine Hits Street Car in Des Moines Crash
A Northwestern freight locomotive struck a Des Moines 14th streetcar Tuesday evening, narrowly missing the motorman, conductor, and two front passengers who escaped through doors and windows as the huge engine bore down. The impact derailed the rear of the engine and left the car reduced to scraps. the train was in yard service under Conductor Moran with engineer Nate Tedrow, brother of George E. Baker of the city.

Scenic Gives Civic Benefit For Bandstand Fund

Windy City pickpocketing on Cottage Grove car case
Roy Howard and George Burton were robbed of a purse on a Cottage Grove streetcar near San Souci park in Chicago. A 19 year old suspect Joe Romaberg fled but was captured, pleaded guilty, and sentenced to one year and a $100 fine. The victim carried $15 cash and a $50 deposit check. the purse was not recovered.

About eighty youths attended the summer school in Nevada which closed last Saturday. On Monday the Normal Institute opened with 140 teachers. Most summer students will join Monday’s enrollment, boosting attendance.
