The Story County Teachers Association plans a two day gathering in Ames on February 2 and 3 with a reception for visiting teachers and a full program. Dr Geo H Metts and Dr John G Bowman are to speak on college purposes and attitudes. Attendance credits will be filed with the county superintendent and lodging arranged by the entertainment committee.

Y M C A Stag Social Opens New Semester
The Y M C A held a stag social last Saturday evening in its rooms as an open house to start the new semester. About two hundred attendees enjoyed table football unique races pillow fights and a sing along with rye bread cheese and apples for refreshments. The management plans more open houses and new games like shuffleboard cue roquette checkers and chess to attract young men.
Boy Scouts and Girl Pioneers Organize in Ames
A large group of Ames youths show interest in Boy Scouts and Girl Pioneers aiming to organize for twelve to eighteen year olds. A scoutcraft school will meet weekly for eight weeks at the M. E. church to study knot tying first aid campcraft signaling flag history and more led by EK. C. Bishop and the Boys Work Committee.

New Pianos Arrive for the Music Hall
Seven pianos including six upright and one grand have been purchased by the Aardman Piano Co New York for Music Hall. One upright survived a fire and was among the best practice pianos on hand. Some new pianos have arrived and been installed at the Knob quarters.

Secretary Bickham to Be Here Sunday

Princess Lights Stolen From Theater Entrance
A group of 40 power lights were stolen from in front of the Princess Theater after the second show last Monday night. The loss costs about $5.50 to replace. Sears & Narvis suspect a local youth and say they may pursue the matter.

Petition to extend evening mail collection at Main and North Western depot
J. J. Grove circulated a petition yesterday to have the mail from the Main street and North Western depot boxes collected between seven and eight in the evenings for dispatch on the night trains. The petition was signed by practically all of the business men.

No Encampment in Iowa This Year For Guards
A general order directs Iowa National Guard units to encamp at Fort Snelling Minneapolis or Fort Sheridan Chicago instead of Fort Des Moines. An appropriation bill supports the move. Mrs B Hibbard who returned from Washington with Dr Hibbard and their daughter learned Monday by telegram that her mother Mrs Baker died in Bellingham Washington after a period of failing health. Mrs Dr Templeton who was taken suddenly on Monday noon remains in a very serious condition. Those close to her say there is little change and she has not been able to take nourishment. Doctors say the ailment baffles those in attendance and it is not paralysis.

Harve Davis Fire Scare on South Street
The home of H G Davis on South Street suffered a small fire last Friday evening when a chimney burned out and set the roof aflame. The alarm was raised but fire crews arrived after and the fire was extinguished with little damage to the roof.
