Butter Awards Highlight Iowa State College Buttermaking Contest
The eight month educational buttermaking contest at Iowa State College awarded C Capper of Westgate top honors in the white milk class with a 95 32-8 average and G J Gudknecht of Lone Rock in the gathering cream class. Each received a $20 gold medal as the daily short course closed with record attendance. Will Cornell of Wildorado Texas traveled far and stayed for extra work. The contests resume in February and welcome creamery buttermakers from Iowa.

Albert Reins Struck by College Street Car in Ames
Albert Reins a Ames high school freshman was hit by a college street car last Saturday morning. Motorman Cole applied brakes and reversed the car to avoid the worst injuries. He was severely injured, with a crushed left foot and a knee cut, but is recovering and expects to be around in a few days. This is his second winter accident after a prior bicycle collision and a separate automobile strike.

Old Ames Graduate Named Engineer for Northwestern Rail
W. Armstrong class of 1931 has been appointed engineer of bridges for the Chicago and Northwestern Railway with headquarters in Chicago. He previously served as terminal railway engineer and oversaw the Boone viaduct project over the Des Moines river, the world’s largest double track railway viaduct. He planned to lecture Ames engineering students next semester on terminal work.

Short Course Prizes Awarded at Iowa State College
The two week event awarded eight scholarships from $250 to $695, a Washington trip for mother and daughter, and numerous trophies. Seven $250 Armour scholarships went to Arthur Strohheim, Arnold Schenken, Glenn Phillips, Fred Bliss, J Hawkins, Martin Snyder, Harold Wilhtame. the eighth from International Harvester went to Or en Timberman. A Page county girl, Lass Edmunds, won the bread baking trip to Washington, with Page county winning the girls team trophy and Kimball Dairy Farmer corn judging trophy for the boys. Wayne Whitmore captured the Shepard medal for livestock judging and Lucia Watson led the girls cooking contest. The event was praised as the most successful in short course history with about normal attendance despite bad weather. The competition used a fourfold scoring system and included a state-wide corn-growing contest won by Lester Finch of Fairbank with 99.67 bushels per acre at 11 cents per bushel. District winners were Vivian Edwards, Harry LaNelle, and David Jones. Concluding note mentions page 4.
