Tragic M and St L Switchman Killed In Rail Wreck Near Fort Dodge
A broken rail on the M and St. L. two miles south of Fort Dodge caused a switch engine to plunge down a twenty five foot embankment killing Geo Scott and injuring four others. Scott, born February 20 1882 in Ontario Iowa, is mourned by family and community. Funeral services were held at the Christian church with Rev A M Shea officiating.

A Perry Iowa man named John Aylward, after arriving in Ames with a wild look, sought strychnine to use as a tonic. He was barred from druggists, detained by Marshal Willey, and sent to a Des Moines sanitarium for treatment following a nervous breakdown. Earlier Si Mitchell of Nevada came through town briefly, then left.

Red’s brother injured in horseback accident
Will Wiley known as Red was called to Cedar Rapids after his younger brother suffered a severe fall from a horse. The animal stumbled and fell, trapping him under the horse and breaking one leg twice below the knee. Red expresses strong sympathy for his brother’s condition.

Nevada Widow in Des Moines Mix Up Sparks Humane Probe
The Humane Society investigated Mrs. Nettie Sherman formerly of Nevada for spending earned money on meals for her boyfriend Floyd Hardesty, now jailed in Des Moines. Her children were neglected and later taken in. Sherman was released by the insane commission, and the children placed in homes. Hardesty, 23, and Mrs. Sherman, over 40, were described as sweethearts.
