The Fair HE offers Sterling Underwear praised for fit style and quality. Manufacturers claim the line is the best and prices are lower than making at home. Those who have tried it urge others to visit and judge for themselves.
Fragmented ad copy lists hemstitched skirts at 2 dollars, underskirts with lace trim at 59 to 88 cents, muslin skirts up to 1 dollar 25 cents, and nurse caps or similar items priced around 60 to 69 cents.
An eye witness reports Ben Cole, described as a large solid man, was the first to escape a fire at the ten cent picture show on Main Street last Saturday night. The blaze was quickly stamped out with no serious damage, though details remain scarce.
William Watson aged twenty and nephew of Mr and Mrs Alex Gray died at their home last Friday from pulmonary consumption. He arrived from Scotland last August seeking better health. He leaves a father and mother in Scotland and a brother in the U S. Funeral Sunday afternoon at the Gray home conducted by Rev Minchin with a quartet choir. Interment in Ames cemetery. Uncle Sam will appear at the Midway Friday and Saturday evenings.
William Wilson and John Gillespie were arrested after breaking into Hank Vanscoy’s room and stealing clothing and veterinary instruments. Evidence linked them to the crime as Stanfield testified to warning an attempted entry with an axe and bowie knife. Bonds set at $2000 each. bound over to grand jury with March session pending.
Guy Vanscoy in Des Moines lost thirty dollars in a street trick by his companion Red Brunson a Nevada man. Brunson allegedly duped Vanscoy, took a two dollar bill, and fled. Police found twenty eight dollars in Brunson's sock, linking him to prior county jail terms and ongoing local scrutiny.
A fishy claim spread that Guy Van Scoy was robbed of thirty dollars at the Northwestern water tank. Marshall Wiley investigated but found no culprit. The tale repeats with a second robbery in the capital city last Thursday raising questions about the money and timing. Dr Claude F Spring, formerly of Ames, has been elected to the chair of gynecology at Des Moines Osteopathic College.
