Alvin Edson Bennett and Ray Bennett earned multiple prizes at the state institute in Des Moines and the Story county farmers institute at Nevada. Alvin won first in sweepstakes and large dent with cash awards and medals, plus best fifty ears. Ray secured several firsts including ten ears and single ear prizes, plus a silver loving cup. The Bennett brothers’ corn success boosts local farming pride.

Harry F Koons born July 17 1868 in Fairview Cumberland PA. Lived in Illinois Story County Iowa Kansas before returning to Ames Iowa where he died December 12 1906 at his brother in law F E Kooser's home. Survived by wife three children three sisters and two brothers. Funeral at Christian church Ames conducted by Rev H D Williams. Burial Ames cemetery.

Death of Miss Mary Leecing In Story County

Miss Mary Leecing died last Thursday morning at her Story street home after a months long tubercular peritonitis illness. Born in Bureau county Illinois forty five years ago she moved to Story county in 1867 and lived on a farm west of Ames before moving to Ames eight years ago. She leaves a widowed mother, a sister in Pennsylvania, brothers Gus in Ames and John in Rocky Ford California and a brother in law. Her will leaves eighty acre Ontario farm to John’s two sons for their education and the town property to Gus. Funeral was Saturday afternoon with Rev. A M Elliott. The body rests in Ontario cemetery beside parents and siblings. The family thanks friends for support during illness and after death.

James Judge, Irish-born Colfax settler, dies at 77

James Judge born in Ireland on March 14 1829 died December 15 1906 at his son J C Judge home in Colfax township Boone County Iowa He came to America at fourteen settling in Troy New York where he married Bridget Kelley at twenty one Five sons and one daughter survived him with one child remaining unnamed due to incomplete fragment

Judge Dies After Lingering Illness in Boone County

Death of Mr. Judge occurred Saturday evening December 15th 1906 at the home of his son J C Judge in Boone County after a long illness. Funeral from Catholic church in Boone on Monday December 17th with Father Sanders in charge. Remains buried in Catholic cemetery at Bookesboro Town. Arcadia Lodge Organized in 1868 by Arcadia Masons

Secretary Frank Fowler holds the transcript of Arcadia Lodge No 249 A F and A M proceedings. The records include organizer names and minutes from initial meetings, valued by the Grand Lodge. Nevada required permission for Ames to organize, with M J Bundy W M and W D Lucas S W among officers. The lodge name was changed from Blazing Star to Arcadia. first meeting Oct 29 1868.
