At a Monday school board meeting Ames may push a plan for a new high school. A committee will draft a bill to let the district issue funds for the building, as current bonds near legal limits and growth is needed to accommodate tuition pupils.
The Mrs S Westman home in College Park burned down Monday about 6:30 due to a chimney fire. Firefighters lacked water mains, used bucket brigades, saved belongings, loss estimated at 1500 with no insurance. Ames residents organized a relief drive, foundation laid by Ben Cole Frank Cameron and Wes Markley, about 200 raised. Ed Graves donated his Grand avenue house for temporary shelter.
The fall term college lecture course closed Saturday with an excellent Florentine orchestra concert. Fourteen skilled players delivered a refined mix of strings and brass with grand opera selections. The Nicholson players and guests received strong encores as plans for a stronger spring course emerged with February through May lineup possibilities.
The Ames football squad shows remaining eligible players for a potential championship team next season with E. C. Harte as captain and Clyde Williams returning as head coach. Awards were given to players for class and squad contributions and the schedule includes Missouri Kansas Nebraska games.
An engine and fireman on a main line freight escaped injury in a Tuesday morning collision in the east end yards. A freight car pushed onto the passing track struck the engine cab, demolishing it, but the crew emerged unhurt in a miraculous escape.

The Iowa State Horticultural Society holds its annual convention in the state capitol building this week with allied associations. The program covers topics for fruit raisers and park forest promoters. Premiums totaling 420 dollars are offered on fruit exhibits in the capitol rotunda. The college horticultural department will supply some prominent speakers.
The Iowa State College reports Shamrock II, grand champion at the eleventh International, achieved a 67.25 percent dressing percentage, a new world record for under one year. The carcass showed near thirty percent choice cuts, with no waste. The head will hang over the shop door and the hide becomes a robe for the owner.
Two Ames men held prominent places on the program of the semi annual meeting of the Duroc Jersey Breeders Association at the Savery hotel in Des Moines Saturday afternoon. S. P. Freed, elected president at the state fair, presided over the meeting and Dean Stange of the veterinary department spoke on Internal Parasites of Hogs.
B F DeWitt longtime Milford township resident died at his Salem Oregon home on November 30 from apoplexy. He was known as an active and genial figure in Milford, with a strong local presence and public reputation.
The Juntos and the Dissenters, two high school literary societies, will present a joint program in the high school tonight. Community members are invited to attend the event.
Ames residents and guests stopped by on the weekend including Mr Welch from Ames and Mr Cliff Ross from Ontario. Des Moines trips and a Colorado visit are noted along with a Kelley school entertainment planned for a Friday evening and a ill child recovering.

The program includes two lectures weekly by Prof L B Spinney and one laboratory period weekly under Prof Kunerth, with lab rooms outfitted in engineering hall and extensive equipment for practical instruction. Prof Spinney studied at Johns Hopkins University this fall to prepare for the lectures.
Prof W J Kennedy will address the Iowa Sheep Breeders and Wool Growers association at Ottumwa next Tuesday on an experiment topic titled Feeds for Sheep. The annual convention gathers sheep breeders and wool growers in the state.
Egemo and Helgeson were married Thursday evening at 6 30 at the bride's parents home in College Park. Rev Wee of Slater officiated in a small gathering of relatives. The couple will live at Fifth and Clark. Carpenter Mr Egemo works for C L Walt mire. Miss Belle Sampson of Story City attended as an out of town guest.
Dr. P. J. Kaynor turned 89 on Tuesday December 13 and remains active in national and international affairs keeping up with the times.
The second round narrowed the Kennedy Cup contest to the Delphian Pythian and Welch societies. Final debates to determine the winner will occur in the spring term.
Lieutenant Rush Lincoln moves from Fort Thomas Kentucky to the Honolulu Hawaiian Islands. The transfer takes effect March 1st.
The nineteenth district convention of the Grand Domain of Iowa Knights of Pythias met at the K P hall in Ames under Ames lodge No 150. Grand Chancellor Cole led a school of instruction on the three degrees and esquire and Knight ranks were conferred by lodge teams.
The Illinois College of something Cosmopolitan Club will host an international program at Ag Hall on Saturday evening. Over eighty members represent several nations, sharing progress and life insights to foster better understanding and closer ties with the public.
G. A. Davis formerly of Ames and Seattle has been promoted to the local management of the advertising brokerage firm in Tacoma Washington. When in Ames he was known as Algy but now signs G A reflecting his westward growth.
