Boy loses hand in freight train accident

His coat snagged on a nail, causing his left hand to be mangled and almost entirely severed as the eight-car train sped to Carroll street crossing. He was treated by Dr. Templeton and Dr. Bare, with partial amputation and ongoing care at home.

Sarah Farrington Watkins born 1839 Stark County Ohio died April 20 1907 at her Colo home. She married Joseph Watkins December 29 1859. lived in Logan Ohio and New Providence Hardin County before moving to near Cole then Colo. Ten children and several siblings survive. Funeral songs were Nearer My God to Thee and Jesus Lover of My Soul. Remains laid to rest in the Colo Cemetery.
