Circulation push for 5000 copies by 1887
A Georgia paper pledges to raise its circulation to 5000 by January 1, 1887, advertising a special reduced rate for new subscriptions from September 1886 through January 1, 1887. Old subscribers must catch up arrears to qualify. Local manager Glessner in Americas, Ga, promotes the plan.

A. P. L. R. Byas Road Plan Abandoned by Directors
The A P L rail line project through Drayton and Vienna is dropped after a failed funding effort of $30,000 raised by Dooly County. Board of Directors, led by Colonel Hawkins, chose a cheaper route to Vienna versus the Drayton path, citing no bad faith while warning the people of Dooly that the road may now bypass them, leaving Vienna with a noncompetitive north south route.

Gum Creek route favored for A. P. L. road plan
Discussion on routing the A. P. L. road to Gull Creek favors Gum Creek to tap Sumter and Dooly counties, connect to the B. and W. line, and reach the Ocmulgee river. Subscriptions on Gum Creek exceed Vienna line. $20,000 for Vienna would fund about 2,000 miles less, and ties to Americus, Vienna, Smithville, and Flint river are weighed.
