The community realizes they have paid outrageously high prices at rival stores. People of all ages and means are turning away from those houses and flocking to the great and unrivaled establishment, embracing the chance at better value.
The article touts a New York Store claim of prices 10 to 25 percent lower than rivals. It emphasizes fair conduct, refusing high markups and vowing to offer ordinary goods at modest, truthful margins rather than exploiting shoppers with inflated profits.
A local advertisement touts New York Store as a long standing business and urges customers to compare pricing. It claims lower costs due to buying cheaper, promising better deals on Eiderdown Jersey Flannel at 75 cents per yard, linen collars at 15 to 20 cents, and unlaundered shirts at 85 cents, asserting they beat competitors on every item.

Late afternoon two bales of cotton caught fire in the Albany cotton press warehouse. The press was running and firefighters attached hoses, turning on pumps to douse the blaze. Water quickly extinguished the incipient fire, averting a potentially massive loss from 1,500 stored bales awaiting compression.
