Sleeping car innovation aims to replace berths with suites

The Central railroad weighs a new sleeping car concept to replace traditional berths. A design features 64 foot cars with a kitchen and observation end, a central saloon by day, and ten independent berths raised from floor at night. Berths are larger, with heat and dry pockets, allowing two-minute readiness. The plan also includes heat, plumbing, and structural details, while referencing existing Wagner and Mann cars and a model examined by General Manager Belknap in New York.
