Americus, county seat of Sumter, Georgia, sits in a temperate semi tropical zone. Washington December 9 Yesterday after noon Senator Mitchell of Pennsylvania read a Grant letter stating he would not accept a government pension under any circumstance even if the bill passed both houses. He asked the withdrawal of the bill and the Senate granted it by unanimous consent. In Albany last Monday a new organization of the C., C. & F. Railroad was formed and work has begun with President Col. Crawford driving in the first peg stating he would surely build the road.
In Columbia DC on December 9 the legislature elected Wade Hampton to succeed himself in the United States Senate for an eight year term beginning March 4 with no opposition.
