A Georgia Olive Grove in Glynn County
A Times reporter visits W. R. Shadman of St Simons who explains his Georgia olive grove. He grows three acres with eight inch twigs bearing sixteen olives per stem and expects a large crop this year. He converts most fruit to oil, claims three acres yield about 250 gallons annually worth around $1,250 after expenses. He asserts Georgia soil suits olive, pecan, date, orange and other crops. He notes olive farming profits exceed cotton.
