Cornerstone Laying Draws Cordele Crowds For New Hotel
A large crowd, nearly three hundred from Cordele and about six hundred from nearby areas, witnessed the cornerstone ceremony for Cordele's new hotel. Masons from Macon and Augusta oversaw the rites, corn, wine, and oil symbolizing plenty joy and peace, followed by a grand barbecue for thousands. Governor Gordon and Major Hanson addressed the assemblage amid festive pageantry.

Seeing the Lights on a Dawson Excursion to Atlanta
Dawson Ga August 12 report details a special round trip by rail to Atlanta for about twenty two local farmers merchants and politicians. Maj. B H Hood chaired the excursion with visits to Rankin House Carter Bradley’s cotton works Eagle and Phenix and other sites. They met Columbus leaders accepted hospitality at the Governor’s mansion and returned to Dawson after two days of travel and city tours.
