KEPT HIS MARBLE How a Georgia Legislator found fortune
A Georgia legislator from Pickens recounts a tale of a revenue officer and a lease deal on marble quarries in Long Swamp, illustrating how marble riches transformed land values. The article also surveys Georgia s immense fruit crop worth about a million dollars, highlighting Elberta peaches and Rumph s Willow Lake nursery profits. It discusses aging in journalism, pine land fertility, and agricultural potential across Georgia s piney woods and lower counties.

Lifetime office reform urged in Crawfordville editorial
In the Offier for a Lifetime column the Crawfordville Democrat denounces life tenure in state offices while praising current holders as capable. It proposes a term limit law similar to the governor’s and barring incumbents from reentry after term completion, arguing life lease clashes with American liberty. The piece contrasts with Rochester baby who smokes a pipe, noting the incongruous image of a child crying for her pipe.
