Floyds Island In Okefenokee Described By General Floyd

General John Floyd during 1838 explored Okefenokee swamp from Fort Gilmer to Traders Hill and Fort Walker. He found a crescent shaped island named Floyds Island rich in timber and game, described brutal swamp crossing, and urged Georgia to drain and develop the land for farming and transportation improvements.
