The Chicago flagship of Rear Admiral Howleau arrived off Tempers Dock Staten Island after a long cruise past Africa and Port Said. The squadron saluted Olympia and Dewey as the ships passed. Admiral Dewey received an official visit from Major Burback and staff before the Chicago proceeded to Government anchorage at Kinsville. Crowds cheered the naval arrival as signal flags fluttered in the breeze.
