Birmingham mutiny at Banner mines on September 10 traced to newspaper agitation, State Convict Supervisor Boyd blames press. Solicitor Davis says convicts must testify before grand jury and expects no executive interference. Governor Brandon warns no interference with investigation.
Rev Basil E Newton representing the Klan Imperial Council claimed at Hurricane that the Ku Klux Klan held an initiation in the White House dining room. He alleged 227 members in the House and 27 in the Senate, and implied five Harding cabinet members were Klansmen. Dr W T Churchman supported the claim to reporters.
Americus Georgia, Sept 22 1923 residents R P Moore and John Wagnon ask for a public school board hearing to address their daughters education. They seek equal access, clarify desks in fifth grade, and state they have no intent to fault teachers while urging consistent assignment of students to Furlow and East Americas schools.

Fire of undetermined origin damaged the storage plant of Swift and Co in Birmingham's wholesale district. Estimated loss reaches 250000 with flames halted by adjoining fire walls and the swift action of the Birmingham fire department.
Chief of Police John T. Bragg brought Charles Patillo from Macon to Americus, accused of stealing a bale of cotton in Sumter county. Patillo, a negro, was found with a ticket to Atlanta and $86 cash, alleged as unspent proceeds from the cotton sale to Harrold Bros. He operated a county property for L. G. Council, and the seed cotton was ginned locally under an assumed name before sale. Patillo was delivered to Sheriff Harvey after arrival. He was said to be en route to Flint, Michigan when captured.
County authorities and New Salem school officials probe the hazing of sixteen year old Vernon A. Walker from New Salem. The student died by his own act following the treatment he received, prompting official inquiries and parental concern.
Indianapolis September 22 The Republican state committee will consider asking Governor McCray to resign due to his money troubles. The governor has turned his affairs over to a creditors committee, with creditors agreeing to wait while he tries to reorganize his business.
