Strait Arrested for Attempted Poisoning in South Carolina

Columera South Carolina September 1 William Strait, relative of ex Congressmen Strait, was arrested in York County charged with poisoning his mother in law Mollie Kidd and others in the Dopasheld family. Investigators say he sought to gain control of a fortune by harming them. Avarice and fear of losing wealth prompted the alleged act and a grated corn dinner sample tested with strychnine led to suspicions. Strait reportedly hinted his mother in law would destroy herself and the household.

Spencer Woodall pleaded guilty to assault with intent to murder and drew eight years. Seven others were sent to the county gang for 12 months each. Three more with similar sentences have moved for new trials.

Circus Train Wreck Injures Many. No Doctors Available

A Cooper circus train wrecked at Tyner's Station when an airbrake hose burst. About twelve people were injured. circus staff and animals scattered. No physicians were available on site, making it impossible to assess injuries, but none are thought fatally hurt.
