Military May Disband Without Help in Georgia and Albany

The Americas Light Infantry faces likely disbandment after January as debts and low dues cripple its viability. International Cotton Spinners and Growers meet in Atlanta

The International Conference of Cotton Spinners and Growers held its second day at the capitol in Atlanta with over 500 delegates. Delegates from major mills in Germany Britain France Italy Spain and Portugal attended, representing vast farm lands cotton crops and mills worth about four billion dollars. Discussions focused on improving handling and shipping of raw cotton to reduce losses for growers and spinners and improve market efficiency.

Banner Day in Americus Cotton Trade Sets Record

Americus warehouses received 1,010 bales of cotton on Saturday, the day becoming a season record for receipts. Most bales sold around eleven cents with finer grades at about 11 1/4 cents, turning thousands of dollars into trade channels. Merchants likened it to a Christmas Eve surge, ending with a season total of 13,111 wagon cotton bales, about 700 more than last year.

Negro killed near Am ericus church in gun attack

Henry Osborne, a colored man, was shot dead at a church east of Am ericus while attending services with other black congregants. The killing, attributed to unknown parties, left attendees fleeing in panic and prompted calls for a full investigation. Osborne worked on a local plantation and was described as industrious and inoffensive.
