A naval engineers meeting in Hay held a discussion on Germany’s 3000 ton submarines and the potential German undersea fleet. The Sumter Superior Court term sees three murder indictments returned by the grand jury. Champ Dugan is charged with killing Ab Williams, while Dolph Woods and William Woods stand indicted for killing Jack Ross on the McGarrah place.

Amsterdam reports a large 80,000 strong Budapest Sunday demonstration favoring an immediate peace. Speakers said democracy must use all means to end the war and that peace cannot be achieved by force of arms. The rally, after denouncing continued hostilities, urged a general strike.

In Superior Court Louis Wimbiah pleaded guilty to possession of a gallon of whiskey violating prohibition law. Judge Littlejohn sentenced him to twelve months on the chair gang, but six months were remitted by a $50 fine. The liquor was found in the negro’s home.
