Advices from Catbalogan report Major Waller attacked insurgents at Lofton Samar Island using two 8 inch guns. Rebels held the position the first day but were driven out after a renewed assault. two marines and 26 insurgents died, and Waller burned quarters and 70 houses. In a rear end crash on the Pittsburg and Western railway near Lowellyilly eight miles west of here last midnight one man was killed and two injured. The dead man is J. T. Shennett, brakeman for Pittsburg. The injured: Engineer Gates and Brakeman Conerty. The first freight section was delayed by a broken coupling and the second section collided, wrecking the engines and trains.
