Fox Sentenced for Voluntary Manslaughter in Lee County
John B Fox was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter by the Lee County Superior Court jury and sentenced to one to five years. Co-defendants Clyde Scarborough and Kenneth Phillips were acquitted. The trial in Leesburg followed an indictment issued the same day, with Fox released on bond and a motion for a new trial set for November 28 before Judge Z A Litlejohn. Fox claimed Davis advanced toward him with an iron bar during the Smithville incident last summer. Fox, a Smithville resident and young married man, was a known figure in the community.
