William Byrd, a black man near Brentwood in Wayne County, was shot by a mob and his body burned after being accused of killing farmer B. W. Moody and wounding two others. The riot followed an incident over Byrd’s wife being denied a ride on the farm truck.
Columbus officials declare the city manager position vacant after Hinkle departs to Altoona and a letter to the Enquirer Sun describes five weeks of denied requests to "clean house." The commission vows to continue anti crime efforts and appoint a suitable successor promptly.
Cor dele on May 29. Crisp county truckers shipped their eighth solid car for foreign market this season, earning 350 to 400 dollars per car on local tracks. Fewer than expected shipments are also heavy. The county plans to send about thirty cars of truck to market this season.
Port land Ore May 29. Six firemen asleep in the forecastle of the Welsh Prince were killed and three injured when the cargo steamer was rammed by the freighter Iowan off Altoona Washington. The Welsh Prince sank in about thirty minutes while the Iowan was sinking slowly.
The Thalean consolidated school trustees announce next year’s staff led by Principal Rev. W. H. Rittenhouse, aged 26, educated at Piedmont Institute and Mercer University. Reports list Miss Emily Barnes Baxley for 6th and 7th grades, Miss Goodson Yeomans for 3rd to 5th grades, and Miss Ozella Carter Bluffton to continue in the primary department. The term starts the last Monday in August to allow two weeks Christmas vacation. The school closes with a record attendance of 165 pupils.
May 29 Cordele report details white farmer David Black stabbing Martha Comer eighteen during a cucumber harvest quarrel. Comer allegedly attacked with a knife. Black sustained a neck wound and killed her. Coroner's inquest returned verdict of justifiable homicide for the shooter.

Thomasville May 29 The registration books for Thomas county show a gain of about a thousand names this year with over eight hundred of them being women.

Thomasville, May 29. A father and son were arrested Saturday while in the act of delivering five gallons of double run. They were in a car, had arrived at the scene, and were taking the liquor out. Officers seized the whiskey and the car, and held them.
J R Crosby an Americus Lighting company lineman died after a pole broke while he worked to restore service on Dudley street. The wind and rain caused wires to fall as Crosby rode the pole and was crushed when it toppled. He died six hours later at City hospital. He was 38 and survived by a widow, siblings, and his mother. Funeral in Willacoochee.
Albany May 29. J C Fulford former general manager of Albany Hardware and Mill Supply Co sues Judge F F Putney for 100000 alleging ouster from the business after losses in 1921. Fulford claims a scheme to ruin him, poisoning stockholders minds and accusing him of siphoning twenty thousand dollars. Putney allegedly took Fulford's property valued at 75000 including his home as security before ousting him. The case draws mild local sensation.

Chicago May 29 More than 48 million dollars was slashed from wages of 400000 railway workers in the board decision, averaging five cents an hour for most.
Guilty with mercy recommended, Clyde Kemp, colored, sentenced to life for the December 7 murder of Willie Lee Tucker, in a cane patch near Americus. Jurors in Superior Court rejected hanging and heard about Weapons and defense by S. M. Ledford. Dowdell, colored, charged with Hawkins murder, followed.
