Americus Light Infantry will encamp at Griffin with twenty nine enlisted men plus officers. Capt Wellborn F Clarke will command. J R J Smith elected junior second lieutenant. The Second Georgia regiment to encamp on June 7 with companies from Macon Perry Columbus Milledgeville Forsyth Griffin and Americus. The Peabody Institute under Capt S D Bradwell plans institutes at Athens Savannah and Americus for five weeks starting July 11, inviting hosts to provide reasonable accommodation and seeking entertainment contributions from citizens. An institute for colored teachers will run concurrently with similar hosting requests for Prof C A Catledge.
