Atlanta May 23 The Presbyterian general assembly urges members to abstain entirely from dancing theater-going and card playing as worldly amusements harmful to spiritual life. The report cites prudence and growth in grace, noting 2,068 Sunday schools with 149,642 enrolled and 87,100.76 in contributions, while 300 churches report no Sunday schools.

Sibe Joyner, born in 1784 and the longest surviving resident of Orangeburg county, died last Wednesday at his home near Branchville. A Black man who lived through every U.S. presidential administration, he voted Democratic and left 47 children plus many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Calvin Kimblern, an Black man linked to a fatal attack on two white girls and injuring his wife, was captured in Denver and brought aboard a Rio Grande train. A mob of about 1500 surrounded the depot, overpowered officers, and hanged him with a rope that broke twice before finally killing him. The scene drew many women among the crowd amid reports.
