In Washington D C a physician with 25 years practice endorses Johnsons Chill and Fever Tonic. He claims it cures chill fever symptoms, improves liver function, relieves costiveness, and aids digestion and absorption. The letter signature T P Edwards M D highlights a trusted medical recommendation.
The advertisement asserts Johnson's Chill and Fever Tonic cures fever better than all other remedies, improves eye brightness, skin clarity, appetite, and liver health, and outperforms quinine. It warns of counterfeiters imitating the product and urges use for fever and maintenance of wellness by repeated use.
The General Assembly at Little Rock held protracted talks on inviting Confederate Decoration Day exercises and on the proposed consolidation of Louisville and Danville seminaries. Objections cited grounds of church governance and doctrinal unity, with minority concerns about losing distinct church teachings. The assembly adjourned without final action, promising further consideration.

Chicago May 23 A tearful interruption scuttled a move to admit Mrs William Krohn to the Federation of Colored Women's clubs as Ida Wells Barnett urged tabling the proposal. The vote 8 to 6 favored tabling with about 25 members present and half abstaining.
An unofficial report from Manus dated May 20 describes a rebel force under Angeles attacking a detachment of American troops in South Camarines. Two soldiers and one scout killed. Insurgents occupy the town to the north.
Presbyterian General Assembly tackles creed revision and church discipline. A report urges discretion in handling secret orders among members, while a program to reduce church debt through appeals continues. President OConnell reports machinists’ strike centers in Cincinnati and the Pacific coast with many firms striking, settlements near, and rail lines only lightly affected.
In Little Rock on May 1 the Southern Presbyterian general assembly held an hour long prayer meeting for more young men entering ministry. The university consolidation issue was postponed as foreign missions recommendations were reviewed. one calls for Sunday school children to provide 5,000 annually for the Congo iron peat project. The motion to report the beat was rejected and the recommendation carried.
John Carlisle and Gustaf Bottinger, from Cincinnati and Stockholm respectively, arrived in Decatur on May 22 to study the proposed Decatur Danville and Southwestern Railroad. They were greeted by a Commercial Club committee and shown maps and a survey of the line. Carlisle and Bottinger departed with experts to review the route in detail.
