Approximately 70,000 people are homeless across Mississippi and Louisiana due to floods. About 40,000 are being fed, housed, and clothed by Red Cross and other groups, while 30,000 remain outside refugee camps awaiting aid.
Grace Collins, 14, driving a Chevrolet, crashed into G. G. Dorman’s car opposite Earl Street. Three women including Mrs. Williams and Louise Dorman suffered broken collar bones and other injuries. two six week old Dorman babies escaped harm. Collins and a companion were unhurt except for shock. Dorman driver Mrs. G. G. Dorman claims the Dorman car was hit from a fast approach.
Washington May 8 Senator Culberson of Texas refused to meet reporters and discuss claims by Alexander P Robertson a British war veteran that private detectives tried to remove him from the country due to his affection for Miss Mary Culberson 21 daughter of the senator.
In Tifton on May 8 R W Goodman was chosen chairman of the Coastal Plain Experiment Station board, succeeding the late W H Tift. Goodman had served on the board since shortly after Tift’s death.
Market figures from Liverpool on May 8 show a 3 to 5 down opening. Fullys traded at 11.12 with 12,000 bales sold. Futures for June September and December quoted, with first call around 10.73 10.64 10.54 and previous close 10.75 10.69 10.58. Corb secist dive cyeed 10.08. 16.84.
Washington May 8 The government stands for guarantees requested of the Obregon government in Mexico nearly a year ago and so far Obregon and advisers have given no definite assurances. Recognition terms were submitted to Mexico City in June 1921 and the situation remains unchanged. An international commission to study recognition issues has been suggested by officials as a possible solution.
Waycross and Ware County Chamber of Commerce launches Made in Georgia Week from May 22 to 29. Georgia manufacturers may display samples free of charge, with about thirty firms already planning to participate. Prominent speakers will urge Georgians to trade among state manufacturers. Manufacturers statewide are invited to request free space by contacting the secretary.
E A Smith, a candy maker in Tifton, is producing vinegar from Georgia cane syrup at his plant north of town. He claims the syrup vinegar is 21 to 2 percent stronger than top apple vinegar, has good body, and will take flavors like apple, peach, or grape. Smith also makes peanut butter from Tift county peanuts with ready sales.
One citizen, whose name is sworn to secrecy, pledged to take 40 tickets for the Veterans Benefit event at the Rylander theater next Friday and Saturday. Capt. H. D. Watts called it mighty fine and good news for veterans who will appreciate the gesture.
Mrs Frank Lanier is convalescent following a recent attack of influenza. She is resting at home andappi rests under physician guidance as she recovers.
Federal Judge Beverly D. Evans, 51, died suddenly at his Savannah home after his third heart attack. Born in Sandersville in 1865, he rose from Mercer alumnus to Georgia legislator, state supreme court justice, and finally U S district judge for the Southern District of Georgia. Funeral set for Sandersville at 4 p.m. tomorrow.
Atlantic City May 8 Arrangements were made to take the body of John H Patterson founder and chairman of National Cash Register to his Dayton Ohio home for interment His valet was his only companion when the manufacturer died of heart disease Sunday on a train bound for this city.

Atlanta May 8 The remaining half of Confederate pensions could be paid by June first if the state gets funds from the oil inspection decision by the Supreme Court and if $150,000 due as inheritance tax on the J B White estate of Augusta is collected in time, says State Treasurer W J Speer. The first half, totaling $625,000, was paid recently from ad valorem taxes, the gasoline tax and occupation taxes.

Thomasville records the death of Henry P. Davison of the J. P. Morgan & Co. banking house in New York. Davison, who owned extensive local holdings, spent six months yearly in Thomasville and praised South Georgia’s climate as universally attractive.
In Thomasville on May 8 the local team staged a record baseball battle against Camilla. By six innings Thomasville led 19 to 6 as Camilla committed 21 errors, the most in a decade in this city.
A locally staged film titled My Old Kentucky Home will be shown in Thomasville today and tomorrow. The production, largely staged in Thomasville and nearby areas last winter, features Monte Blue Lucy Fox Julie Swayne Gordon and other stars with notable Southern scenes.
Albany high school shut out Americus 10 to zero in Albany on Saturday. A sore pitching arm was blamed for Americus allowing ten runs, while Americus failed to score.
