Pursuant to a court order the City Ice Company plant was sold yesterday morning. The bid was placed by G. M. Eldridge for 4300 on behalf of Messrs. R. I. and Walter Maynard, the principal purchasers. The plant originally cost 13000 five years ago and has had improvements since installation. A movement to organize a stock company to operate the plant is under way. Operations will begin within two weeks with an expert from Macon to assist. The factory previously produced an excellent grade of ice and the new management aims to restore that standard.
Letters from Congressman Lewis announce a government soil survey of Sumter County. A field party from the Agriculture Department will map soils, roads, houses, and streams, then publish a detailed report with soil types and crop recommendations to aid farmers and land buyers.
Mr. Jack Renew, longtime Americus resident, died Thursday morning at his Spring street home after a lengthy incurable illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Oakgrove Cemetery with many friends in attendance.
